We will be sharing our very own granola bars at the RIC (Rooted in Community Conference) hosted in Philadelphia this summer. During a business lesson, we learned that a successful business always starts with a prototype of the product that will be sold. Our friend Mr. Bruce came in to help us make our granola bars. In order to perfect our product, we made three different batches of granola bars using the following base recipe:
Ingredients:
2 C whole old- fashioned (rolled) oats
1 C whole wheat flour
3/4 C honey
1/2 C brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp cinnamon
1/4 C applesauce
1/4 C pineapple juice
*1/2 C of either applesauce or pineapple juice alone can be substituted
Procedure:
Combine dry ingredients in a large metal bowl. Mix thoroughly.
Add wet ingredients.
Stir until granola reaches desired texture.
Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
One group added dry cranberries to the base recipe, one group added pumpkin seeds, and one group added both. The competition was fierce! We will be tasting each granola bar to see which one we like the best and choosing our final Rebel Gardener Bar!
