The Rebel Gardeners’ integration of food education and media technology serves two important purposes. The first is mission driven- by documenting our work we can share with others the stories of our adventures, mishaps, and triumphs which will hopefully engage and inspire others to taking up similar work in their schools and communities.

The second is pedagogical- technology adds texture to our real-world problem solving by driving young people to wrestle with content over a variety of media. By engaging in filming a tutorial, creating a cooking show, or writing a review of school lunch students become the teachers, and gain mastery of the material by becoming the deliverers of knowledge. Through practice these new technological tools are tackled and the resulting product is intensely satisfying as it’s relatable to everyday experience.
