How does our soil measure up?

Today the Rebel Gardeners tested our soil to make sure our plants are getting the nutrients they need. We spent some time learning about the importance of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K) in our soil and talked about how the pH of the soil can make it easier or harder for plants to get the nutrients they need. Then we gathered soil from one of our garden beds.

We followed the instructions in the LaMotte Soil Test Kit and tested for Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium and the pH in our soil.

We worked together to find and record our results. Our soil has a pH of about 7.0, which is neutral and a good level for our plants to be healthy. We have a very high level of phosphorus in our soil, which will help the plants to develop when they are young. Unfortunately our Nitrogen and Potassium tests did not show results, so we’re planning to test them again this summer.
